The Fletcher Academy was established in 1981 as the first independent day school for students with learning differences in the state of North Carolina. For the last 35 years, TFA has specifically served as a school of achievement for those with learning disabilities and ADHD. Our vibrant and joyful community is a place where unique learners confidently discover academic, athletic, and social-emotional success.
Our Core Values
We believe in our own abilities.
Every individual has unique gifts and talents to share; students grow to become self-reliant, confident, can-do people.
We achieve to our greatest potential.
Our students achieve to their potential in a variety of academic, athletic, artistic and social-emotional areas.
We explore the world as curious learners.
Learners at Fletcher pursue knowledge, practice original thinking, and effectively communicate their ideas.
We soar beyond expectations as community leaders.
Our young people are a source of constant inspiration; they treat each new day as an opportunity to make the world a better place.

We provide students with a strong academic curriculum that includes multi-sensory teaching methods delivered in small class settings. Students at TFA are able to develop learning styles consistent with the strengths of their own minds through consistent processes and careful observation.
Prior to each school year, we individually prepare each students’ course schedule to match their ability level and goals.
Our students thrive here because each day is filled with activities and social connections that provide a warm and tight-knit community. Because of our highly structured environment, we are able to help each student integrate extra-curricular activities and social skills development, ensuring they develop a positive sense of responsibility.
We help students develop goals, which are reinforced through daily communication with families. All activities are provided with the same careful design as our tailored academic programs. We pride ourselves in our ability to nurture the whole child with a whole school environment.
